I looked out my window and gazed at the stars. The sight was breathtaking. I opened my window with my left hand and sat on the ledge, not caring that i could fall to my death.
The night air was silent and cool. The sky was dark velvet, dotted with twinkling stars. The stars danced across the sky, around the moon. The moon shone brightly above, bathing my room in its soft luminous glow.
I smiled at the moon, hoping that it would not smile back because that would be creepy. I loved night more than day.
The night was more mysterious and beautiful. You can't gaze at the sun in the day. You can't dangle your legs over the ledge, without getting sweaty (unless it was winter but still you get cold) and the neighbors would cluck loudly at you and ask (more like order) you to get down before you fell.
I chuckled to myself, as if i was sharing a private joke with the moon. Before i lost the courage, I swung my legs dangerously over the ledge, so that they dangled over my window. I was half in, half out. I look at my watch that was strapped on my wrist. 12.00 a.m it showed.
Perfect. I told myself. The witching hour.
The moon shone at my face, bathing me in a luminous glow. I looked at my legs.
Even, my cuts and bruises looked nicer under the glow. My blue cotton shorts turned silvery grey from the light of the moon.
My palms were gripping the ledge tightly, so that i would not fall. I could not help feeling a kernel of fear, i could fall anytime. My right hand was still in its cast, i could feel it swinging a little.
I heard a soft snap, like the sound of a camera. I looked down and saw Greyson smiling back at me. He was holding a small black camera. 'You took a picture of me?!' I hissed at him, i was angry but more surprised.
'Yes, i did.' He answered back simply. His eyes shone. He walked to my door and looked at me with his big brown eyes. He wanted me to open it. I sighed in defeat.
'Wait, I'm coming down.' I yell to him. I swung my legs back into my room, gently shutting my windows and closing back the curtains. I walk downstairs. I accidentally banged my right arm on the door while trying to get the keys.
I cursed and opened the door with my good hand. Greyson stood outside, smiling. The moon shone on him, illuminating his face and turning his dark brown hair silver.
He's so perfect... Stop it. I willed my mind to fill with other memories.
We're friends,nothing more.Don't ever think like that again I chided myself as i let him inside. I shut the door before glaring at Greyson. 'What are you doing here?!'
I hissed at him. 'It's midnight. You should be asleep.' He chuckled.
'You sound like my grandma, Shay and i should say the same for you?' He said jokingly.
I rolled my eyes. 'What did you come here for?' He cleared his throat like it was something important. 'Drum roll please.' He said, chuckling to himself. I glared at him and that shut him up. 'I believe that i have solved the riddle, sort off.' He told me,'My mom helped me thought.'
'Are you sure?' I asked him, my head tilted very slightly to one side to show confusion and doubt. 'Well, not the whole riddle, just some part. ' He said.
'Your dad's riddle is complicated and has many parts, my mom said that it was designed most likely for you, all the answers that you would know.' He told me.
'Not so loud, my mom and sister are sleeping.' I whisper to him. He nodded. I stifled a yawn, trying not to let him see.
'I'll show it to you tomorrow morning, get some rest today.' He told me smiling as he walked out the door. I nodded, too tired to argue.
'Goodbye and Good night.' He yelled as he ran back to his house.
I smiled and shut the door gently behind him.I walked upstairs and fell asleep before my head reached the pillow. The last thing i saw was the key my dad gave me, which was resting on my desk where i had left it yesterday.
